Pay Per Click

Pay per click (PPC) is an advertising model where advertisers only pay when a user actually clicks on an ad to visit the advertiser’s website. This advertising model is primarily found on search engines, but it also used on advertising networks, content websites and blogs

Advertisers bid on key words they believe their target market would type in the search bar when they are looking for the advertiser’s product or service. When a user enters a query matching the advertiser’s key word list, or views a web page with relevant content, the advertiser’s ad may be shown. Ads are generally shown in order, from the highest bidder to lowest bidder.

These ads appear in both search results when someone searches for certain key words, and on content pages which are deemed to be relevant to certain key words. The search result ads are called a "Sponsored link" or "sponsored ads" and appear next to, and sometimes, above the natural or organic results on search engine results pages. The content page ads appear anywhere a webmaster chooses to place them.

While many companies provide PPC advertising, Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and Microsoft adCenter are the largest network operators as of 2007. Depending on the search engine, minimum prices per click start at US$0.01 (up to US$0.50). Very popular search terms can cost much more on popular engines.

Arguably, this advertising model may be open to abuse through click fraud, although Google and other search engines have implemented automated systems to guard against this.

Internet marketing is simply the term used to describe the marketing of products or services over the Internet. Internet marketing is also referred to as online marketing or e-marketing.

The Internet has brought a number of unique benefits to the marketing industry; these include the low cost of distributing information and media to a global audience, and the interactive nature of Internet media, both in terms of instant response, and in eliciting any response at all.

Internet marketing is the process of using online media to promote and grow an organization. It does not simply mean to build or promote a website; somewhere behind that website is a real organization with real marketing goals.

Internet marketing uses both the creative and technical aspects of the internet; these aspects include design, development, advertising and sales. Internet marketing makes use of methods such as search engine marketing, display advertising, e-mail marketing, affiliate marketing, interactive advertising, blog marketing, and viral marketing.

Internet marketing strategy includes all aspects of online advertising products, services, and websites, including market research, email marketing, and direct sales.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a popular method of promoting internet businesses (often called merchants or advertisers.) The “affiliate” (or publisher) is rewarded whenever their efforts result in a sale, customer or subscriber.

Affiliate marketing is also the name of the industry in which this form of marketing is performed. The industry includes affiliate networks, affiliate management companies and in-house affiliate managers, specialized third party vendors and various types of publishers who utilize a number of different methods to advertise the products and services of their advertiser partners.

To some degree, affiliate marketing overlaps other internet marketing methods because affiliates are using the same methods as most of the merchants themselves do; methods such as organic search engine optimization, paid search engine marketing, email marketing and even display advertising.

The major advantage to affiliate marketing is the advertiser is effectively paying for results. The most common form of affiliate marketing is pay-per-sale, where the affiliate is paid a percentage of each sale they send through to a merchant. The merchant does not need a marketing budget – the affiliates do all the promoting for them.
